At first they just took them for grotesque statues, worn down by time and sand, it took some time to realize what they were actually looking at. Echo understood it first, she could hear faint voices, confused wailing emanating from the pallid green orbs. These had been people once and something violent and terrible had happened to them. Whatever the event was it must have been instantaneous, it petrified them where they stood, flesh turned to stone in the blink of an eye. Only one pair seemed to be trying to shelter, maybe they saw something, or knew what it was that did this, maybe there were answers with them…
Echo sat doing her "necromancy" routine, though she'd never tried to summon shadows even remotely this old she was going to try.
R.o.b. was off ahead. As far as he’d come consciousness-wise he didn’t really understand morbidity, almost like a child his curiosity overwhelmed any other feeling.
Sec was in back, she stood as still as the stone corpses all around her. She'd never felt such a profound sense of unease before, and she was fairly certain that she knew why she felt like this. This is where she died. Or at least where the original Sec died, and the original First too. Her memories from her first life were blurry at best, but she knew this place, or at least a version of it, and it was her last memory. What she did see clearly was the importance of this place, she needed to know what she and First were doing here all those millennia ago, she also needed to know what went so horribly wrong.
